Let's Power Up Your Storytelling!

How, and Why, to Treat Your Writing Like a Business

(Originally published June 27, 2022)

Hey, storyteller!

Is writing a hobby for you, or do you consider it a business?

If your goal is publication, whether you choose independent publishing or submit your story to traditional publishers, it's never too early to start treating your writing as a business.

But how can you do that if you don't have anything published yet? And why would you need to?

If you aren't doing so, you could be prolonging your wait for publication or failing to make best use of your resources (including time and finances). That second point also applies if you are published.

In this week's writer coaching session, we'll discuss three areas in which you should shift into business mode: your mindset, how you prioritize time, and your finances.

Watch the video to discover:

  • How treating your writing as a business can help you, even before you have anything published
  • The mindset shifts you need to make if you want to pursue writing as a career or side business
  • How your priorities affect your ability to get the writing done and sustain a successful writing career
  • Tips on managing your finances to make your writing more than a hobby
